William Henry ISPHORDING Jr.

Born in Wissinoming area.

He was a saw maker (either at Henry Disston & Son or Enterprise Mfg. Co.), a machinist and a hotel and bar proprietor. [282]

At the turn of the century he owned and operated the Robert Morris Hotel and Bar, 213 Morris Street, Morrisville, PA. (This was a regular stop for stagecoaches between Philadelphia and New York City).

Alan Isphording (letter March 7, 1995):
"Three days ago I received a phone call from a gentleman in California. His wife, who is a firefighter (!!) was attending a training program in Maryland of all places. While there, she attended an antique auction and bought an old cash register (her husband collects them). She paid $542 for it. She shipped it to California and as the gentleman was cleaning it up, he noticed a small metal plate on the bottom which read "William Isphording Jr., August, 1902". He bought form one of the computer genealogy companies a list of Isphordings. He called my cousin Russell in Philadelphia. Russell referred him to me.
It seems the cash register has a special key, called a "growler key", which was used in barrooms to ring up the cost of a keg of beer. The result: this cash register turns out to be the one my grandfather had in his hotel and bar, The Robert Morris Hotel, in Morrisville, PA. It's a small world sometimes!!"

He and Louisa also owned a candy store in Philadelphia for a short time.

As Eastern United States Skeet Shot Champion, 1915-1918, he used the name William (Bill) Williams.
