bullet  General Notes:

A boatbuilder by trade for some four years prior to enlisting in the Civil War. He enlisted in Philadelphia, PA, 18 Jan 1862 for a three year period. Assigned as a private to Company I, 99th Pennsylvania Volunteers.

He was frugal and caring. Sent money home regularly to his parents.

Became a corporal 15 May 1864.

He was wounded that day at the Battle of Spottsylvania (known also as The Wilderness) of a gunshot wound to the chest (apparently broke the clavicle (??) as well). He was taken to Emory General Hospital, Washington, DC, then transferred to Mc Clellan General Hospital, Philadelphia where he died.

Various documents show date of death as June 15, 24, 25, or 26. His name appiears on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg, PA.
