Ancestry.com has a listing from the "New York City Deaths, 1892-1902" for a Mary E. Reiss, age 58, Certificate 551. This document was ordered from the NYC Archives on 12 Nov, 2003. According to that death certificate, she died from Phthisis Pulmonalis, the same malady that killed Appolonia Koferl Thomser in 1879 and Mary Elizabeth Thomser Reiss in 1903. She is identified as being in the US for 51 years and in the City of Brooklyn for 26 years. She is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Queens. On December 19, 2003, I contacted the cemetery office and was told that there are 5 burials in that grave, located at 1 West, Ave. P, Plot 9, Grave 5. For $33 they will send me an Interment List. I sent an order for that list on the 22nd.

According to the Affidavit for License to Marry for the second marriage of her son, Francis, Mary's last name was Rouch. I checked census and IGI records for persons with that last name born in Bavaria and found that spelling to be Irish. However, the spelling Rauch is found in Bavaria, so that spelling is being used in this record. In some census records and city directories, the name is sometimes spelled Rausch. In Trow's City Directory for 1865, there is a John C. Rausch listed at the same address as Emmerich. It is believed that this in Mary Elisabeth's brother.

(Emmerich Josef REISS was born in Jul 1841 in Olpe, NW, DEU, christened on 31 Jul 1841 in Katholisch, Olpe Stadt, Westfalen, Prussia, died on 31 Dec 1913 in New York, USA and was buried on 3 Jan 1914 in Queens, Queens, NY, USA.)
