Born in New York City, shortly after his parents arrived from Europe. The family settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. He met and married Louisa there. Record thereafter is sparce. They have lived for a short time in Richmond, Indiana.
The family tells the story that he went west allone to "strike it rich" in the gold fields. He never returned.
