August KAUFMANN
August Kaufman, son of Fred and Elizabeth Kniebe Kaufman, was born October 28,1877, in 01pe, Germany. He came to Westphalia with his parents in 1881 and lived on a fann west of Westphalia. Mary Schneider, daughter of George and Frances Stolz Schneider, was born August 23, 1885, on a fann three miles east of Westphalia (the current farmstead of Walt and Doris Schneider). She was the oldestchild. On September 29, 1903, she married August Kaufman who was established in farming with 160-acres. They settled on this farm, currently the farmstead of their youngest son Jerry and his wife Dolores Kaufman. August Sr. died 8/8/1932; Mary died 12/13/1975. They and their infants are buried in Westphalia. Theyare the parents of 12 children: Frances, (19041960), married Henry Foxhoven (d.1991) of Earling, children: Betty (Bill) Noonan, Columbus, Nebraska; Bernice(Sr. M. Charlita) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Les (Sharon) of Algona, Iowa; Arlene (Bill) Rolf, Fullerton, Nebraska; Richard (deceased); Janet Fielder, Omaha. Nebraska; Shirley (Don) Herbst. Earling; Carol, Harlan. Tony (1/14/1906-1/29/1975), married Rosalia Fobs They lived on a fann near Westphalia and had four children: Marj (Leo) Kramer of Omaha. Nebraska; Don (Ramona), of Portsmouth; Monica (deceased in infancy); and Marcus (Linda) of Westphalia. Al (10/20/1909-7/7/1953) married Marcella Esser. Their sons, Nilus and James, are both deceasedand buried in Westphalia. Sally lives in Earling. Leonard and Marie Gross-story elsewhere. Geraldine (b.6/23/1915) of Sebastopol, California, married Jack Dixon on April 13, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa. Their children. Jack, Jr., of Sebastopol; and Curt (Maria), (d.1993). Jack Sr. and Curt are buried in Sebastopol. Ernil and Aquinata Gross-story elsewhere. Alban a,nd Lavina Gross-story elsewhere. Gus (8/13/1923-7/21/1961) married Delphine Zimmer, children: Julieenne (Gene) Wiig, Kirkman; Keith of Harlan; John (d. 1989); and Kevin (Janet) of Bettendorf. Gus married Lenna Wilson on July 21, 1961. They had two children: Tarnrny and Tara. Jerome (b.ll/22/1924) married Dolores Blum. They live on thehome place northeast of Westphalia, children: Jacqueline (Roger) Coenen, Kansas City, Missouri; Robert (Mary Beth) of Westphalia; Gwendolyn of Harlan and Curt (Lisa) of Council Bluffs. Alice (b.4/14/1926) married Herbert Wegner, children: Philip (Carol) of Panama; Ruth (Robert) Huebert of Panama; Norma (Jan) Randal of Council Bluffs; and two who died in infancy . John (b. 9/12/1917) died in infancy. August Jr., (d. 8/17/1918) at the age of seven days.
